JOB TITLE
Runaways Project Worker (full-time)

SALARY SCALE
£16,000 – 18,000

POSITION IN ORGANISATION
Reports To: Operational Manager


MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB
To provide services relating to the development and implementation of the WST Runaways Project concerning young people who run away from home or care and the risk to sexual exploitation. These services will include, but are not limited to, allocation of return interviews to the wider team, carrying out return interviews, signposting and onward referral of interviewees, the engagement of young people deemed to be at risk of sexual exploitation and any other work that will aid the overall development of the project.
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• To maintain data base records, make contact with and book appointments for return interviews.
• To carry out Return Interviews with young people.
• To allocate return interviews to be carried out by the wider WST team.
• To develop tools and strategies to creatively work alongside the service user group enabling them to recognise and reduce the risks in their lives.
• To encourage service users to access relevant agencies.
• To play a key role in referrals of young people wishing to receive specialist services, including MARS, Jigsaw & Nehemiah Projects of WST.
• To liaise with professionals from other agencies within Walsall by providing support and advice.
• To keep accurate and confidential records of contact with service users to enable future monitoring of the project.
• To compile monthly reports and monitoring.
• To work to set project targets, as delegated by the Operational Manager.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• To work within WST Equal Opportunities Policy & Health and Safety Policy.
• To work within WST Child Protection Policy
• To be available to all other projects of WST in respect of this client group.
• To attend regular, relevant training as deemed appropriate by management for professional development within the post.
• To attend regular supervision.
• To carry out any other duties or reasonable tasks appropriate to the grade of the post as may be delegated by the Operational Manager.
Person Specification

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Good communication skills with young people
• The ability to build relationships with young people and to enjoy young people’s company
• The ability to assess the needs of young people at risk
• The ability to act as an advocate on behalf of young people at risk
• The ability to work on your own initiative in a structured and self-disciplined way
• Be able to communicate effectively with statutory and voluntary agencies and other professionals
• Be able to maintain accurate records and compile verbal and written reports
• Accept the inherent worth and importance of all individuals
• Demonstrate a commitment to Equal Opportunities


EXPERIENCE
• Suitably qualified in youth or social work
• At least two years post qualification experience working with young people


KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the issues facing the service user group, including:
Homelessness
Sexual Health
Drug and alcohol use
Sexual exploitation
Family breakdown
Domestic violence

• Have a valid driving licence and have daily usage of a car
