Dearest Black Countryites,

We hope that you are well, and enjoying the glorious English summer! Umbrella's of blessing to you!!

I cannot believe it's August already, but it is....honest.

I want to stand aside this time for my dear friend and colleague, Jon Grant, who has tirelessly served The Body of Jesus in Sandwell over many, many years, and I just loved the flavour of this last week's Sandwell Net news, so to all those servants out there who are seeking to unite churches, organizations and people for the sake of the wider Kingdom, God bless you all, and may He GRANT you the favour to keep going in this very challenging task.

There are expressions of "the net" in each of our 4 Black Country boroughs, and we thank God for what He is doing in and through each of these. My own experience of many years has been that working "in between" congregations can sometimes be a thankless and laborious task, but to know that we're somehow serving The Head of The Church is reward enough.......He knows, and it's His Church, so we press on and pray that His purposes will be fulfilled IN our generation.

Here's Jon message to Sandwell last week....God bless you all...........;

Dear Sandwellians,

Hope you are all well and have/had chance to get away over our glorious summer?!

Just a few events and opportunities for the Church of Sandwell to get involved with.  A big welcome to new people that have asked to be added to the every growing database. Please feel free to let me know of any events, prayer needs or good news stories that you might want to share with congregations across Sandwell.

At present the Sandwell NET news goes out over 40 churches across our borough, the main NET news covers the whole of the Black Country and goes out to hundreds of churches.  Both aim to inform, encourage, motivate and unite congregations from a wide range of denominations across the Black Country.  This is done through a variety of forums meetings and gatherings with the aim of seeing the Black Country truly transformed by Jesus through HIS Church.  TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER!!!

Adrian Lowe from the NET core vision team was recently approached by a very large Christian company who are interested in providing opportunities in Wednesbury – See email below from Adrian.

I was also recently approached by Steve Teagle from the Sandwell Youth Offending Team who is looking for volunteers from faith communities who would be willing to be life coaches in Sandwell schools working with young people that are at risk of exclusion – see info from Chris Webb below.  Please get in touch if you or any one from your congregation might be interested – What a great opportunity!

Have a good summer.

Jon Grant

God bless you all AGAIN,

Tim.

Wolverhampton Youth for Christ

Wolverhampton Youth for Christ was launched 18 months ago.

W-YFC works in schools and churches around the city.

We are very excited that The Message Trust have agreed to partner with us - training, bands, etc.

WANTED - Enthusiastic Christian Volunteers

Wolverhampton YFC are recruiting two local GAP year volunteers to work with us in 09/10 - starting mid September.

We would like to add two enthusiastic young Christians (age 18 -25) to our small team.

They will receive Message Trust 'Praxis' accredited youth work training and local accredited mentor training.

There will be opportunities to do youth work in Wolverhampton and Manchester.

Wolverhampton YFC does a mixture of schools and church youth work.

Our YFC team also do some drama and sports activities with our own 'football cage'.

As part of the placement volunteers can take part in an optional Romania trip working with street children.

Given the high quality of accredited training - costs for this gap year will be a very affordable.

 DUDLEY MOSQUE

You may have heard news from various sources regarding the ongoing planning process for the proposed new mosque in Dudley.  Unfortunately, much of the information is creating an inaccurate statement that the mosque, if built, would be the largest in Europe.  In fact the size of the planned mosque is far from this size, and would not even be the biggest mosque in the West Midlands, or even the Black Country, let alone Europe.  While there are many different, legitimate opinions and fact  regarding the mosque, if you do come across this piece of mis-information repeated in error, it would serve us well as peacemakers and followers of Jesus to sensitively correct those who are making this mistake.

We do wish to pray into this situation, especially for WISDOM, and we hope that all of our prayers and conversations regarding this will be seasoned with grace and mercy as we're sure that Jesus would have us to represent Him in this way.

STOURBRIDGE FOODBANK will be at
Sainsburys, Withymoor Village, Friday 14th August between 5:00pm & 10:00pm
collecting food from the shoppers.

Wendy Fryatt; coordinator of Foodbank across the borough said,
"We will be outside the main entrance from 5:00pm asking shoppers to buy just one extra item with their regular shop. We then distribute this food to those in our community who are referred to us by the 65 agencies we work with across the borough, via our 'banks' in  Stourbridge, Brierley Hill, Netherton & Halesowen.

This year so far we have given away on the community's behalf  the equivalent of over 10,000 meals (incl. 3750 meals for children) and toiletries. We work with agencies, who while they are helping to resolve issues for people, can issue a voucher for Foodbank voucher entitling the household to three days food.

Churches across the borough are working together to help our community, they donate the bulk of the food we give away. Most of the agencies also collect food and we've also had collections from schools - all harvest collections greatfully received. We can only handle non-persihable foods like cans, bottles, packets & boxes, we will have shopping lists to give to Sainsbury's shoppers letting them know the items we need.

This really is a community effort in these difficult times, this year we have already exceeded the number of folk fed for the whole of 2008.

If you'd  like to know more about our work you can look at our website: blackcountryfoodbank.webs.com or contact us at blackcountryfoodbank@yahoo.co.uk".
