Dearest Black Countryites,
Hi all. Hope you're ready for the delights and challenges of the festive season!
Well, in preparation, please can I take this opportunity to challenge you in your thinking a little about one of the most important aspects of our Christian living? Please??
Let me start by reminding us all that we're all part of One Body across this nation, across whichever town we happen to find ourselves living in, and across this Black Country of ours (which is a good job for the ever growing number of us who don't happen to frequent our "LOCAL CHURCH" in a geographical sense, but do attend a church somewhere in the region).
Now, whether you happen to relate to a particular congregation, your immediate neighbourhood, your town, your borough/city, your region or your nation, we pray that you will truly FIND YOUR PLACE in The Kingdom and function there as best as you can in the remainder of 2009, and even more into 2010.
You may even belong one of those rapidly growing groups in our region that do not relate into any congregation or faith group at all, at present, so even when you think you don't belong, you really need to know that do! It's great though to be able to relate to others in His Body isn't it.
The real key is that we relate to Christ, The Head of The Church, and what is required more than ever in our nation are people who know Him, who love His Body and who seek to establish His Kingdom.
Only He can organize us to somehow stand together. Only He possesses the genius to know how The Church really functions in this world. Only He can handle the headship, the organizing and the pressure of leading the most amazing living organism in the galaxy!
Paul tells us quite clearly that He has arranged the parts, combined the members and distributed
the gifts in order that His Body can function as a missional community on this planet, usually in geographical contexts (1 Cor 12).
I just have to wonder how many of the groupings/organizations/faith communities/congregations/etc in The Black Country would even dare to share the name of the "ekklesia" that He envisoned, launched and fashioned back in first century Palestine, and which He has continued to brood over ever since from His seat in eternity.
Our prayer in 2009/10 should surely be, "Lord, show us how to be your Body in the way you would have us be here on earth"?? Please show us how "to be one" as you are One, not as we think you are One!
This is something that we all need to give serious thought to as the world around us changes, and to do it as positively as possible. We all know that so much needs to change, but there is also much that has been built by past and recent traditions and models that is beautiful too, and negative criticism of what we see is never the best staring point.
God is still definitely talking to people all over the world, and all over our nation about His Body/Church.....He has no plan B! He wants us to be functional in our communities, He wants us to be involved in peoples' lives, and He wants us to work together with other parts of His Body.
In short, He wants US! And He wants us to work in groups, of all kinds, of all "ethnos"/tribes, of all kinds.........unity in diverstity. Maybe He wants us to work together in traditional ways, and maybe He also wants us to be creative and innovative with new expressions too.
One of the ways we (as The Net) have tried to respond to this in recent times has been the whole concept of THE SECTORS. You may or may not have seen references to this over the last 1-2 years, and it may have caught your attention for positive or negative reasons.
We continue to be as obedient as we can in this in that we call people out to gather together in groups, in sectors and in common ground SO THAT we can be more effective together in being WHO WE ARE where we are.
Somewhere in this statement is a potential hot potato.....as by saying this, we are saying that we are encouraging people to be CHURCH where there is no apparent "church"
(ie, building/program/recognizable structures).
But by saying this, and by making this call, we are simply encouraging people to realize that Jesus is IN THEM, with them and for them specifically for where they are and WHO THEY ARE.
Over the next few months into 2010 we want to continue to "OPEN GATES" into these sectors.
We started with the Social Services/Action sector back in late 2007, and from this the concept of A.C.E was conceived and has now been birthed across the region. This is for individuals and organizations.
Imagine if local government needed to distribute £50million of social capital to better serve your area, and as existing structures seemed to be lacking, they looked to The Church to once again stand at the heart of community in servanthood and placement......how could we be better positioned to offer an effective gateway for this?
Then, last summer, we called into the Education/Learning sector, and something has started moving there too (.....just contact us for more details on this as we are always looking for people to join in, get involved and become CONNECTED in any and all of these TRIBES).
Imagine a tribe of 1000's of teachers, parents, classroom assistants, governors, students, school/college/Uni workers (etc) somehow connecting with a heart and passion for their sphere with a renewed heart and vision for MISSION!
Imagine a valley full of dry bones? (Ezekiel 37) Could something really happen such that THE LIFE OF GOD could be breathed into our communities through this gateway??
Imagine being in a huge school/college and thinking you're the only Christian there, only to find that there are another 50, but you didn't know about them as you each belonged to one part of The Body and these parts didn't connect....tragic really, but it happens every day!
This last year, there has also been a growing sense that we need to focus on the NHS/Health sector, yet we know so few people here that have been largely unsure of how or where to start if we're really honest, but we must be odedient and wait for the right people to come forward or something else to become evident. Please get in touch if this could involve YOU??
Imagine being in a huge hospital (like Russels Hall-Dudley/New Cross-Wolves/Sandwell General/Manor-Walsall) and thinking you're the only Christian there, only to find that there are another 250-500, but you didn't know about them as you each belonged to one part of The Body and these parts didn't connect....sad really, but it happens every day!!!
Also, the Business/Commerce sector has been stirring once more, and a number of people are praying to plot a forward path, and anyone is welcome to connect if they sense something or just want to muck in!
Imagine ways that God could reach people through Christian employers, managers and the like......ways of finding resources to more effectively reach 1.2 milion souls in The Black Country??
In 2010, we will also have reason to touch on the Law/Justice sector again, so we formally call out to those of you in this sector to come forth and take your place.
Imagine ways of re-discovering The Father's massive heart for justice and equality?
You may work in this field (law/justice/legal/Police/Probation/etc....etc), or you may simply have a passion for something in here, or for justice itself....well, you qualify!!
Or, just as importantly, you may someone who is/does....connect them in by simply telling them or forwarding this e-mail...it's as simple as that,ie, The Body working, communicating and connecting together. We need each-other don't we??
Sometime next year, we will also look at the other sectors, Media/Arts and Local Govt/Politics, as we want to have given opportunity to OPEN THE GATES in each of these sectors as things accelerate for The Kingdom in our Black Country, and beyond.
Imagine what our God could do in these spaces....in these huge gateways into our culture?
Maybe it's time to re-imagine? To dream? To conceive new initiatives, and new expressions of His Body, dare we say His Church??
As 2010 unfolds, may we each find our place in Him (Phil 3) and may we all find ourselves in Him, and each-other.
God bless you all, and may He keep hold of you in all there is in store for us in 2010, and beyond.
Keep going,
Tim

Here's what she says.......
Gave me a prophecy that I was going to write books that would go around the world. I hung onto it, but to be honest didn't really believe it was possible - after all, hardly anyone knew about my writing and I was too nervous to show anyone what I'd written.
Last year, I finally got up the nerve to show more people, so I put a story I'd been writing about New York onto a site called Authonomy.com - publisher HarperCollins' site for unpublished authors - just to see what the other writers on the site thought about it. To my astonishment, a month later I received an email from an editor at Avon (part of HarperCollins) asking for the full manuscript of my novel. I sent it off thinking I wouldn't hear from them again, but two weeks later I received a phone call and they offered me a three-book contract!
My debut novel, Fairytale of New York, is now in the shops and sold nearly 6,000 copies in its first three days on sale! It's going to be translated into German, too, and will be released there in about 18 months. Meanwhile, several other countries are considering it...
The story is a romantic comedy set in New York. Whilst the main character isn't a Christian, there is someone who influenced her in the past who loved Jesus and it is his advice that she recalls as she tries to learn how to live life to the fullest. It's a story about love in all its forms and the importance of community - something I learned so much about during my time with The Net.
I'm amazed at where God has taken my little story so far and I know He has greater plans yet for my writing. My prayer is that He makes divine appointments for my book - and that people who read it will get something of His love from the story.

A whodunit with faith, by a local Christian author, recommended at the November BusinessNet meeting:
A British Crash by Roger Harper
An easy read, very well written. I couldn't put it down as I was eager to find out what happened.
Some of the issues raised did make me think how I would have dealt with the situations that arose. I felt the book was 'real' and very much in line with 21st century living. I look forward to the next one.
Well done Roger God Bless

Mission and Community - Leaders Net -
Tuesday 8th December 2009
9.30am for coffee.
All Nations Christian Centre
Temple Street/Summer Row,
Wolverhampton. WV2 4AQ.
Our December session will follow this year’s Leaders’ Net theme of ‘Mission’.
We have asked three church leaders from three different boroughs of the Black Country to share their stories of how they have reached out to their local community in creative missional ways. The focus of the stories are not on ‘huge projects’ that for many of us are beyond our reach but on practical engagement, involvement and influence.
Each story will be followed by small group discussion where we will explore the issues of Involvement –
- Involvement – How should we be involved in the life of our communities? Facilitated by Paul Chamberlain;
- Distinctiveness - What does it mean to be distinctively Christian? Facilitated by Leon Evans;
- Influence – How do we influence our communities and culture? Facilitated by Adrian Lowe.
This is purposefully aimed at being a practical session where we can share stories, engage in debate, and learn from each other.
Please book in as soon as possible with John via admin@thenet.org.uk as usual to enable us to maximize our preparation for the morning, and please be mindful when doing so as we will assume that you will stay for lunch unless you tell us otherwise.
Please allow us to remind you about this as we sometimes have to subsidise these sessions, and we know that you are very busy people. Please understand that we have to cover the costs for this even if you do not turn up, so please “partner with us” in this and let us know if you book and your plans change, even at the last minute. We appreciate your assistance in this guys.
Yours Together,
Adrian, Paul & Leon.
There is only very limited parking at the church but many car parks within easy walking distance. To see a map and get directions to the church log onto the church website www.allnations.org.uk and click the ‘church information’ tab. When that page loads look for the ’location’ tab.
Why not let John know you want to come right now on admin@thenet.org.uk

Your friendly Black Country Ambassadors at the Food Bank took it upon themselves to take about 3tonnes of food and goods up to Cockermouth in Cumbria last Sunday!
What's she blaethering on about I hear you mutter..........
Well, it's like this!
We recently took delivery of a substantial amount of food from a manufacturer via our friends at HIS Church.
As you will know from the news there has been devastating flooding in Cumbria, Black Country Foodbank has been able to respond to the needs there just yesterday!
A team of us went up to Cockermouth, by invitation of Cumbria Churches Together, as their food stocks had been lost in the flooding, yesterday to deliver just over 2tonnes of the food Jesus had just provided along with toiletries and nappies etc.
We started loading at 7am and left at 9am to join the M6 traffic. We had just turned off the M6 at junction 40 when I turned the radio on to hear the local MP reporting that in the Workington relief centre they were desperately short of nappies!
We were able to call ahead to Andrew Robinson who is coordinating the Food Bank for the area and he in turn was able reassure people on the ground that nappies and other goods were actually on the way to them.
We hadn’t of course realised the scale of the problems for the community until we got to Cockermouth where we arrived by 2:00pm at the Lorton Road Methodist Church to be greeted by very grateful people.
We shanghaied a couple strong young men who were walking past, in the rain, looking bemused at our hi-vis jackets and the trailer, mini-bus and cars. We also seconded a couple of fell walkers who were only too happy to help us unload the food.
Andrew then told us of the plight of folk in Workington who were at that time ‘marooned’. We worked with the local folk to divide the load into two, half for Cockermouth and half for Workington, which Andrew loaded into his borrowed livestock trailer and a lady filled her mpv and off they went to North Workington before the bridge was finally declared unsafe.
On our way home Andrew called to tell us that the response at the Workington relief centre was one of being, "Gob-smacked", "How come you can get here so quickly when we can't get anyone else to help?"
Andrew had replied, " You rely on organisations but we rely on God and He's quicker"
We weren't that quick on the way home, we finally got back at 11:00pm, very tired but utterly blessed and thankful that we had done what Jesus had asked of us!
Only Jesus could have know that there was going to be a need like this, that he was going to ask us to respond to on his behalf!
He is our provision:
Warehouse
Racking
Pallet Lifter
Fork-lift
Food
Transport and a contribution toward the fuel from a congregation on the Sunday morning.
There can be days when any of us wonder if we are hearing the Holy Spirit correctly, but last weekend was a definite confirmation!
Be encouraged Black Country, Jesus is on the march and He's asking as many of us as are willing to follow Him.
love

Ex-football agent, David Carr, who pastors one of the largest churches in the Midlands, will tell his life story in an after-dinner talk. This will take place on Monday 7th December, following a two-course carvery meal. The evening will be hostedby: Dudley Focus for Men.
David was born in Birmingham and had severe learning difficulties
as a child, not being able to read and write until he was in his late teens. After surrendering his life to the Lord his life was changed so much that he entered the financial world and became one of the
top 300 underwriters in the world. This opened the door into
professional football where he managed the finances of 700 UK top
footballers and became a Director of The Professional
Footballers Association Finance Division.
During this time David trained for ordination with the Elim Pentecostal Church and
was ordained in 1979. Having started a church in Solihull, Renewal Christian
Centre, with just four people, the congregation now exceeds 1700 with 8 satellite
churches.
Renewal Christian Centre is seeing many miracles take place at this time, so
fulfilling the vision God gave to David.
He is known as a conference speaker travelling in Europe, North America and
Australasia.
David became an accredited Minister with the Free Methodist Church in 2002.
David is married to Molly and has three children, Ashley, Melanie and Lucy.
The venue is The Lodge, Wellington Road, Dudley, at 7.00 for 7.30 p.m.

VOICE IN THE CITY
UK PRAYER NIGHTS – 2010
Voice in the City is holding 4 Prayer Nights in the UK next year and is inviting pastors and their leadership/members in the Birmingham and Black Country area to join Suzette or Gayle, the UK team and our local partners in order to seek God for what He has in store for this area.
It is our vision to see churches come together and impact this area for Christ. We have always believed that when the voice of God’s people is heard in the city, the voice of God is presented in that city.
The dates, times and venue for the prayer nights are as follows (2010):
Dates: Thursday 18th February Thursday 20th May
Thursday 7th October Thursday 2nd December
Time: 7.30pm – 9.30pm
Venue: The Cornbow Man (Situated in the main church building)
Zion Christian Centre, Little Cornbow
Halesowen, West Midlands, B63 3AJ
The venue will only hold approximately 40 people, so it will be on a first come first served basis.
As well as praying for the region, we would also like to stand with you in prayer for a specific need for your church for which you have been praying for a breakthrough. All we ask is that you let us know at least a week before each meeting by telephone, letter or e-mail, how many people will be attending from your church and what you would like us to stand with you in prayer for, so that it can be added to our prayer list.
During these meetings we will also take time to pray for Voice in the City and the various events that we have around the world during 2010.
We therefore extend our hand to you and say “let us pray together and expect something new in 2010.”
If you would like us to stand together in prayer, then please either contact our office on 0121 602 4545 or e-mail: jmorris@voiceinthecity.org.
For further information, please see our website at www.voiceinthecity.org.
