NATIONAL PRAYER News Update: February 2010

From the Prayer Forum of the British Isles and Ireland

www.prayerforum.org

So what has been happening across the nation in recent months?

Good news stories:

Each week the Prayer Forum website is updated to profile stories to provide both encouragement and challenge. In January items included: the news that Christians across Scotland are uniting for a year of continuous prayer for Scotland; the eviction notice by Newham Council to those planning the megamosque; the impact of the prayer & campaigning resulting in the changes to the Equality Bill; how teenagers are coming to faith in Christ in 24-7 prayer rooms in Ireland and how the Christian Police Association who believe that the power of prayer can catch criminals and keep officers safe from harm has been awarded a £10,000 grant from the British Home Office. And this past weekend has seen the 24-7 prayer movement celebrate its 10th anniversary! The Website Calendar highlights the many prayer initiatives, conferences & calls to pray currently taking place e.g World Prayer Centre annual conference Swanwick 22-24 March.

Resourcing the church to pray

To pray for the situation in Haiti

For our Armed Forces and Operation Moshtarak taking place currently in Afghanistan with British, US and Afghan troops and police. Full briefing and prayer information is on our website. Give thanks for the courage of our troops. Please pray for the safety of our troops and that there will be minimal loss of life on all sides; for the Chinook pilots flying the troops into the operation and for those seeking out and defusing the Improvised Explosive Devices. Please pray for safety of the local population in the middle of the fighting; that the operation is successful and that Afghanistan troops and police will be able to bring security and stability to Afghanistan in order to bring nearer the day our troops can come home for good.

Prayer Alert continues to provide weekly email prayer information profiling stories across our nations & the world to inform our praying.

Check out our How to Pray section for different new resources.

Two books

Steven Anderson Releasing Healing. Steven & Helen Anderson have been involved in healing ministry for many years. They have pioneered Healing Rooms in Scotland since 2004 and this book sets forth a vision of what is possible for a church that truly believes. It tackles many of the questions that surround the ministry of healing and encourages us to press forward. Order from www.healingrooms-scotland.com

Brian Mills God is still speaking - sparking a strategic prayer revival throughout the Church. Brian examines how God initiated the many prayer projects he has been privileged to be a part of. Out of a lifetimes' experience of leading prayer he gives a radical call for us to be a part of how positive world changing events can come about through strategic corporate prayer. Buy from www.sovereignworld.com.

Pause to reflect.

The story of the Muslim bus driver who stopped his bus, locked the doors and knelt in the aisle to pray for five minutes leaving bemused and anxious passengers trapped in their seats profiled in the media this month is worth reflecting on. Where does the discipline of prayer & worship fit into my daily life as the season of Lent begins?

Next month: We will feature new stories & resources of how to pray for our upcoming general and council elections.

If you have not yet registered on the Prayer Forum website (as an individual, part of an organisation, ministry, network, church), please do so and then we are able to profile your regional/national events and resources.

By the way, apologies for long silence but I was ill during the autumn 2009!

Dear Black Countryites,

Greetings to you all!

We have once again given precedence to the guys at WPC as we genuinely believe we need to continue to sew to the wider or bigger picture. We need a local, regional and national prayer movement and stratagy, and we thank God for the giftings He places in His Body that seek to link us up so that we can touch Heaven together.

Thanks to Jane & the team who are seeking to inform The Church in The UK (and beyond) of how we can connect in prayer, and how we can remain informed of what our God is doing at the ends of the earth so that we don't get too tempted to stop thinking beyond the end of our noses!!

There's plenty of stuff below to check out too, and we will pick some "ramblings" next time.

I will just tell you that I have been reading an awesome book of late that I would strongly recommend to anyone who would seek to go deeper in their revelation and understanding of the relationship between Jesus and His Church. It is awesome, and it's the only book I have ever read that I have immediately re-read!

It is called THE SACRED ROMANCE by Brent Curtis & John Eldredge.....you can even buy it by linking to amazon through our web-site, or even better, by purchasing it from a local Christian book-seller/shop!

Keep smiling,

Tim

Hello everyone and a belated Happy New Year!

I hope you've all had a fantastic start to the New Year and enjoyed any snow days you may have had!

We will be gathering for our first prayer breakfast of the year on Saturday 13th March, 10am-12pm at The Net Chapel, Sedgley. We will be spending some time sharing the pressures of not only working in the education sector, but being a Christian in it too and praying for one another in the roles we find ourselves in at work at the moment. All are welcome so please feel free to forward this email to anyone you know who may find it useful and encouraging to join us.

In the meantime, keep your chin up and press on in all that you're doing - you''re there for a reason and you're doing a fantastic job!

Take care and God bless,

GENnet Kids Weekend

Hi,

I’ve enclosed details of our weekend away for children which will take place on Friday 17th-Sunday 19th September 2010.

It is for children who are currently in School Yrs 3-6 (2009-2010 school yr).

It is £45 and includes accommodation, food and plenty of activities. Last year we had over 100 on the weekend and it sold out.

We are expecting it to be extremely popular again this year, so book in early to avoid any disappointment.

We do have the extra facility of camping this year which is at a cheaper rate of £25- you would need to provide tents and sleeping equipment but all food and activities are included.

Please read through the attached information and if we can provide any more information, please contact Phil at philmiles@junction10.com

News from Revival Fires Dudley

The Burn Band “One Night Only” Event: Friday 5 March 2010 at Revival Fires

We are so excited to announce that the Burn Band is coming to Dudley England for a “One Night Only” event on Friday 5 March 2010! We would love for you to be a part of this special night of passionate worship with Samuel Lane and the Burn Band and dynamic preaching with Ryan Baker-Barnes. Revival Fires has held youth and young adult events for over five years, and we have seen God release a rising generation to live boldly for Him. We know that this event will launch us even further into the unique callings that God has placed on us.

Who are the Burn Band?
The Burn Band is a collection of musicians taken from the Burn Church, St. Albans. Formed very organically after being asked to record a couple of albums with Vineyard Records. What followed was the best-selling album “Beautiful”, which sold over 45,000 copies. The Burn Band continue to develop new songs and lead worship at their home church. Their second album, “All From You” was released in 2006.

What are the details?
This One Night Only event will be held at our Apostolic Resource Centre on Friday 5 March at 7.30 pm. There is no charge for this event, but you will have an opportunity to give an offering during the night.

What can we do?
Bring your youth and young adults! You can register online at www.revivalfires.org.uk/conf/index.html, or call the office and speak to Ryan to make a group booking. We would be so grateful if you could help us with advertising this event so that it impacts as many youth and young adults as possible. Please display and distribute the enclosed flyers.

Come and have an encounter with God and be released into a greater realm of Kingdom living.

mission at the heart of the church
– church at the heart of mission

Dear friends at The Net

We wanted to remind you of some important information for those you know working in mission.

Following four successful events CV, Keswick and OMF are again running a special week for mission families, couples and singles who are in the UK during May 2010.

Text Box:

re:ignite has proved popular and effective as a time of retreat, refreshment and relaxation for people serving God around the world.

Here’s what some delegates from the last event said …

· I am very grateful to all who have served us with such love. I feel refreshed and equipped to go out and serve others in consequence of all that love! (AS, Food for the Hungry)

· Wonderful sense of love and fellowship combined with excellent teaching and lots of fun. Exceeded expectations. (SB, Friends International)

· It has been a particularly special time for us. To be shown such love and understanding has been quite mind blowing. (SW, Church Mission Society)

> Do you know any mission workers who will be in the UK during May/June 2010?

> Is this something you could let them know about and encourage them to attend?

(Details and booking forms are online at www.christianvocations.org/reignite)

> Would your fellowship be willing to sponsor a missionary (family, couple, or individual) to attend?

If you have any queries about re:ignite please contact us.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Paul

Amazing Opportunity for Students and Young Professionals

Calling the next generation of lawyers, politicians, journalists, civil servants...

The inaugural ‘Wilberforce Academy’ takes place March 21st to 26th 2010 and we are asking all students and young professionals who have a passion for defending and proclaiming the Truth to consider applying. For one week you will be taught by some of the world’s leading thinkers on vital issues such as life, liberty and the family. You will learn how to make a difference to a society which has turned away from God. You will meet like-minded people from across the country that share Christian conviction and the desire to serve God’s Kingdom. In short, you will learn how to become a generation of men and women who ‘Passionately Demonstrate Truth’.

  • Learn natural law principles and the foundation of law.
  • Lead driving change in the legal system.
  • Defend religious liberty, the sanctity of life and traditional family values.

Successful applicants will gather at Oxford University for a residential week of lectures, seminars, worship, devotions, and interactive discussions designed to confront conventional wisdom in legal education and present a principled, analytical framework and Christian viewpoint. You will leave not only with increased knowledge and conviction, but also with connections to other interns and faculty that will assist you throughout your education and career.

Date: 21-26 March 2010

Application by CV to kathryn.wakeling@ccfon.org, telephone 020 7935 1488 by 21 February.

Looking for Work

Once people have read my CV (AVAILABLE ON REQUEST) and may have something available, contacting me by e mail would be best initially - philipansell@yahoo.co.uk

I live in Oldbury and am married with four daughters, our youngest daughter is three weeks old and we have been informed that she will need medication three times daily.

I would like to find employment relatively close to home and with a certain amount of flexibility in my working hours, this could include two part time jobs.

I presently work in Wolverhampton, and there is no scope for flexible working hours.

I moved down to Birmingham 20 years ago from my home town of Stoke - On - Trent, to attend Westhill college, training as a youth and community worker.
After leaving college I worked for 5 years at the Birmingham City Mission, working with the street homeless in the missions soup kitchen, I also worked in the city centre helping rough sleepers to find accommodation.

After leaving the city mission I worked for 3 years at Adullam homes housing association, as a support working helping adult males leaving custody, to live independent lives in the community, and helping them with benefits and general life skills.
For the past 10 years I have worked in the prison service as both worker and manager, providing support advice and counselling, to problematic drug users.

As a family we attend Zion Christian Centre, having been there for approx 2.1/2 years, I am on the rota for both car parking duties and assisting with the foodbank.
At our previous church I was the youth worker for several years, providing weekly meetings for approx 25 teenagers, and planning holiday's including spring harvest etc.

Many thanks.
Phil
