PRAYER News Update: July-August 2009

From the Prayer Forum of the British Isles and Ireland

www.prayerforum.org

Re-launch of New Prayer Forum website

The new look Prayer Forum website is live today!  It is the place to go to connect with what is happening, be equipped and informed and to encourage unity in prayer in and around the British Isles and Ireland.  We invite you to register whether you are an individual, a church or church group, or an organisation or prayer network.  Let us know who you are, what you are involved in, so we can build up the true picture of how God is mobilising prayer across our nations.  It is still a work in progress. Let us know of resources, stories, events and email details to Natasha on admin@prayerforum.org.

To catch up with global prayer information with reports from the Call2All conference in Hong Kong in June where over 3000 Christian workers from about 100 nations gathered to develop strategies to complete the Great Commission; an update on 24-7 prayer and more information on the 4/14 window (reaching the 1.2 billion children and young people between the ages of 4 and 14) check out the latest International Prayer Council update.

 Pray for:

Italy: G8 Summit and Prayer Summit 8-10 July 2009; the leaders of the G8 nations will be meeting in L'Aquila, Italy to discuss the international economic crisis and regional crises, food safety and security, the struggle against climate changes and the deregulation of world trade.  They also invite to join them the Group of 5 Nations, Major Economies Forum, the NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa's Development) founder states, the representatives of the African Union and Spain, Turkey and the Netherlands.

In parallel to the G8 Summit, an international team of 18 Christians (including some from the UK) will be meeting near Turin, Italy where the aim is to pray for the G8 nations, their leaders and for the agenda for the G8 Summit.  Pray for all those attending the Prayer Summit - for God's divine protection and leading through each day. Pray for the Lord to "bless the kings of the nations that they might be a blessing to the nations"; for God to raise up those like King Cyrus (Isaiah 45) to accomplish the purposes of God on the earth; for divine alignment & realignment among the nations; for the forces of darkness that would seek to dictate, direct, and deceive the leaders of the G8 to be bound and silenced in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ; for the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord to rule and reign in the affairs of man executing justice, righteousness and truth; for protection over the G8 summit area L'Aquila, and the surrounding areas.

Pray for all the Heads of State involved. All details G8 Summit.

The House of Commons will be hearing the Equality Bill and the House of Lords will be looking at the Coroners and Justice Bill and the Policing and Crime Bill this week.  A number of organisations are mobilising prayer and action.  Human Rights campaigners have joined a team of lawyers and various organisations to resist Clause 61 of the Coroners and Justice Bill.  Maranatha have compiled a briefing; Christian Concern for Our Nation a petition.  Full details on Prayer Forum website.

Week of prayer for Parliament and Government (7-12th June) - Many joined in prayer for this week which involved teams that prayer walked the Parliamentary estate and Whitehall, praying at various government departments.  Watch the 24-7 PrayerCast featuring Dave Landrum Senior Parliamentary Officer for Bible Society.

Redeeming our Communities events - More than 200 church leaders in Greater Manchester linked up with neighbourhood police teams on 24th June as part of a nation-wide community campaign and on June 16th over 4,500 people came together at the Echo Arena for the launch of Redeeming Our Communities in Merseyside.  These are the first steps of a 10 Cities strategy, where ROC hope to see effective, strategic partnerships formed with police forces over the next 3 years.  Full details on the news page.

One of the aims of the Prayer Forum is to promote prayer in every area of society. Do you know of anyone who would benefit from linking in with David Gillett?

New Christian Councillor Network? Having been a county councillor for 12 years and a borough council leader for 9, I have grown increasingly appalled at the unGodly shift in many areas of public services and in the dictates coming from central government. Christian councillors often have to support policies that are totally contrary to scripture and the heart of the Lord. I have felt very isolated in these situations and have often wondered how many other councillors are in the same boat. So.......with the Lord nudging me I am setting up a national Christian Councillor Network for mutual support and prayer. If you or your church would like to be prayerfully involved please email me at d.gillett@ntlworld.com Thank you, David Gillett.

 The season of prayer continues

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY - Saturday 17th October 2009

The World Prayer Centre will be hosting THE PRESENCE, a national day of prayer in association with Persecuted Church agencies;  Release International, Christian Solidarity Worldwide and Open Doors - at the new NEC LG Arena, Birmingham on Saturday 17th October 2009. It will be a powerful day of prayer, worship and declaration for our nation and our world.  The day will be an example of how we can bring the Presence of God into our communities to change hearts, minds, and situations, through the power of the Gospel, the message of the Cross, and the outworking of our Christian faith to bring hope in desperate times. For more information and to buy tickets (£7), visit the World Prayer Centre website.

And finally! My new little book Prayer - a beginner's guide is just out. A simple introduction to what prayer is and how it works. Filled with up-to-date stories about the power of prayer from across the world and is an ideal resource for new Christians. £4.99 from www.brf.org.uk

Dearest Black Countryites,

Here we are again!

A few things to share, and way too much to ramble on about, so I will save you this time and get this info out there.

One nugget I found this week however, in something someone sent me is this:

"As Brother Lawrence put it, “All things are possible to him who believes, they are less difficult to him who hopes; they are still easier to him who loves; they are even easier to him who practices all three virtues.”

Amen!

God bless you all,

Tim.

LEADERS NET

So far this year………….

During our Leaders sessions this year we are focusing on mission. The first two sessions this year have looked at Mission and Culture and Mission and Community. We continued this work when we met for a vision day on the 20th June. Leaders from across the region met to explore together what the church of the future might look like. How do we change to meet the challenges that our 21st century culture places on us as firstly believers, but also as leaders of congregations? This was an exciting day as we considered how we could ‘move out of our congregations’ and take up residence in our communities!

MISSION AND DISCIPLESHIP

September 29th 2009

Facilitated by Malcolm Duncan

Junction 10 - Walsall

Malcolm Duncan leader of CommunityandChurch.org will speak at and facilitate this participative session which will include looking at the challenges we face as leaders in the discipling new believers and hearing stories of where this is working. If those who come to faith do not fit a current ‘shape’ or ‘model’ what do we do. What does it mean to walk in a discipleship relationship with someone?

Come prepared to share your stories of what God is doing!

Please book in for the next session by emailing John at admin@thenet.org

Hi Bro

Web Page up and running now and my new email below: -………………..
www.ucb.co.uk/bagofhope Thanks for all your help bro and God Willing
many kids will receive the Gospel I have orders for just under 11,000 bags
so far and radio and literature adds not gone out as yet!

Dear Friend………………………… (this is sent early to get a positive idea
of how many books and bags to order re making this offer nationwide!!)

Like it or not, each year when “Halloween” time comes around we, the church,
choose whether to simply ignore it, speak out against it or take the
opportunity to reach out and witness to the children who come to our
doors to “Trick or Treat” us.

Quote from J Jo hn regarding this project: -

“The message of HOPE needs to be given to every child in  these dark
days when so few are being reached with the Light of Christ.
UCB’s  “Bag of Hope” is a creative, wonderful, simple, non-threatening
way  of communicating the Truth. With it we can change the
eternal destiny of a child.”

This year we at UCB want to both challenge and equip the church to reach out to the
children with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Why not use the opportunity to offer HOPE to the children – by giving them a “Bag of Hope”?

WHAT IS THE BAG OF HOPE?

The “Bag of Hope” is a small, bright yellow bag with the words Bag of Hope” printed on the front - containing the two younger Books of Hope (a harmonisation of the 4 Gospels - made relevant for children and young people), and a copy of “The Word for Today” for the adult that brings them, or awaits their return back home. After first putting a handful of sweets in each bag, by giving a child a Bag of Hope, you are giving them the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ - and you don’t even need to leave your own home to do it!

You can order the Bags of Hope and books in any amount - FREE OF CHARGE.

A church of 50 households might want to consider having 5 bags per family - as many children usually call on the night and sometimes more than one call at a time.  In this case your church would order 250 bags – and the books will automatically be sent to go with that number.

WHAT IF I DON’T USE THEM ALL?

No problem. Keep them for another event at your church, such as your Christmas Carol Concerts, as The Word for Today only expires on 31 January 2010 and the Books of Hope are undated.

WHAT IF I NEED SOME MORE FOR CHRISTMASTIME?

From 1st November we will be taking orders for Bags of Hope to be used at
Christmastime or any time you have a need to use this free resource

Please feel free to pass details of this offer on to anyone you think might be
interested in taking the UCB challenge to offer Hope this 31st October!
There is a web page set up which you can view the Bag of Hope
www.ucb.co.uk/bagofhope this will help you more with what the
Bag of Hope is etc. This page contains an on-line order form or you can contact me direct or use
bagofhope@ucb.co.uk this email from July 1st onwards for more info.

 We only request 2 things:

1.   Please let us know how it went – what response you received.

2.     Please consider covering the cost for the postage and package
for your bags and books etc.

If you have any queries or are interested in taking up this offer, please contact me as
soon as possible to secure your order in time for the 31st October.

In closing, please bear in mind that this project is by no means
a way of supporting Halloween but to provide the church
a tangible opportunity to offer Hope to the children and
  young people in our nation.

 God bless you
