Dearest Black Countryites,

Here we are again!

Well, here's our latest news supplied by YOU and for YOU.

There's loads to read, so I will ramble lightly and swiftly.

Please see below an extract from 'The Ragamuffin Gospel' by Brennan Manning that someone recently sent to me, and I hope it helps many of you out there to know that if you can only view yourself slightly differently today, the path ahead may strangely change it’s course.....

"What makes authentic disciples is not visions, ecstasies, biblical mastery of chapter and verse, or spectacular success in the ministry, but a capacity for faithfulness.

Buffeted by the fickle winds of failure, battered by their own unruly emotions and bruised by rejection and ridicule, authentic disciples may have stumbled and frequently fallen, endured lapses and relapses, gotten handcuffed to the fleshpots, and wandered into a far country.  Yet they kept coming back to Jesus.

After life has lined their faces a little, many followers of Jesus come into a coherent sense of themselves for the first time.  When they modestly claim, 'I am still a ragamuffin, but I am different," they are right.  Where sin abounded, grace has more abounded.

Peter had built his whole relationship with Jesus on his assumed capacity to be adequate.  That's why he took his denial of the Lord so hard.  His strength, loyalty and faithfulness were his self-generated assets of discipleship.

The fallacy in Peter's mind was this: He believed his relationship was dependent on his consistency in producing the qualities he thought had earned him the Lord's approval.  Many of us face the same problem.  We project into the Lord our own measured standard of acceptance.  He will love us if we are good, moral and diligent.  But we have turned the tables; we try to live so that he will love us, rather than living because he has already loved us.

The gospel says ‘we can't lose, because we have nothing to lose..."

The disparity between our ideal self and our real self...the awareness that I am not living what I believe reinforces a nagging sense of guilt...that I have failed.

BUT here the words of Jesus...

"Little Brother, I witnessed a Peter who claimed that he did not know ME, a James who wanted power in return for service to the Kingdom, a Philip who failed to see the Father in ME, and scores of disciples who were convinced I was finished at Calvary.  The New Testament has many examples of men and women who started out well and then faltered along the way.

YET on Easter night I appeared to Peter.  James is not remembered for his ambition but for the sacrifice of his life for ME.

Philip did see the father in ME when I pointed the way and the disciples who despaired had enough courage to recognise ME when we broke bread at the end of the road to Emmaus.  My point, little brother, is this: I expect more failure than you expect from yourself."

Success is never final; failure is never fatal. It is courage that counts.

With that in mind, may you experience Him deep down in your hearts today in a fresh and vibrant way, and may you and I come to continually realize that it is not about you (or me), but Him, and when it comes to the Black Country, it's not how impressive we can get our churches/groups/organizations to be, or ourselves to appear, but it's about Jesus, and HIS ABILITY to shine through broken vessels, to reach out through wounded limbs, and to walk with our limps with a limping generation.

God is good. Life is for living. May we all rise up as ragamuffins this week to understand The Great News of the Gospel once more, and may this revelation affect everyone and everything around us.

God bless you all,

Tim.

News from the Sectors

bing - bong - bing...

hi-de-hi campers. ho-de-ho.

yes - at the next breakfast we shall all cook bacon & eggs outdoors shortly before the beauty pageant is held at the former swimming pool at the quality hotel (now the car park) - to be hosted by captain tim in his yellow blazer and shorts.

hang on, i'll start again, otherwise who knows where this email will go?

good evening / morning each and every one.

please excuse me while i get this guinea pig bone out of my mouth.

anyway - i am writing about the next breakfast 1st July already !!!!!!

at the time of the next breakfast, it transpires my dear wife will be in uganda fighting hippopotami and so - guess what? sadly i can't be there (kids / school run / etc).

however, we do have a very unique and wonderful message to share. some members of the team have already had the pleasure of hearing this particular story and they are highly highly enthusiastic about sharing it with you.

i think its safe to say it will expand your understanding of who jesus is.

so, i don't want to ruin it, but make every effort to be there next time and feel safe that you could invite your friends along without any fear of cringe-worthiness.

more details later and the usual 'are you coming email' but put the big date in your diary now - 2nd july 2009

you wouldn't want to miss it!!!

Daniel Kolenda in Wolverhampton – 08-09 July 2009

Who is Daniel Kolenda?

Evangelist Daniel Kolenda is a fifth generation preacher who, as a young boy, was called to take the Gospel to the nations. As a teenager, his life was radically changed after an extraordinary encounter with God’s power that ignited a passionate burden for the lost.

It was at one of Reinhard Bonnke’s Great African Crusades that Daniel first saw the massive crowds of people being saved, healed and filled with the Holy Spirit. And it was there that the Lord renewed the burden in him to take the Gospel to the nations.

Daniel is now the co-evangelist with Reinhard Bonnke of Christ for all Nations, and during our latest crusades in Africa, which he led, he has seen over 2,000,000 people make a decision for Christ.

Daniel’s ministry is marked by a powerful, evangelistic anointing, with miracles following the preaching of the Word.
