Advent Prayer – Running the race
Together we can make a difference
I love the build up to Christmas. I guess I am tainted by consumerism. Picking cards, mulling over what presents to buy and the chance to meet with friends and family all bring me great joy. I am aware that most of these things have little to do with the heart of Christmas. They are fleeting and like an artificial tree and decorations being put back in the box, the joy they doesn’t last.
Leading up to Christmas this year I urge you to join me and do something that could make a lasting difference in you and beyond you. Can you imagine thousands of churches and individuals taking a short time every day of advent to reflect and pray? The benefits could last for a lifetime and beyond.
At the Evangelical Alliance we are committed to unity and prayer. This year’s Advent Prayer leaflet has material from people involved in prayer ministries across the UK. They have taken their passion and knowledge to provide some wonderful insights and encouragements.
The themes include faith, joy and perseverance. Alongside the reflections are prayers both for us but also for the nations. There are many things that need our prayers as we head into another year. We are desperate for God to bring healing and transformation.
The Advent Prayer material provides a fantastic opportunity both to put Jesus at the centre this Christmas season and to pray for change to come.
It would be great if you joined us and got copies of Advent Prayer for your church or prayer group members. Together we can make a difference this advent – a difference that can last long after the decorations have gone.
