Prayer News Update January 2012

‘Arise, shine for your light has come’

An unprecedented  year of prayer is starting to emerge as churches, groups and organisations sense that God is asking them to major on prayer this year. Over the New Year period many Christians gathered to pray in watchnight services, went on prayer drives, took part in prayerwalking especially around the Olympic Park Site and put on special prayer events – including a 25 hour vigil to pray for every nation of the world held at Ashburnham Prayer and Conference Centre.  Kingdom Come 2012 was launched in a large service at HTB in London; and churches connected with More than Gold and HOPE have been using resources provided to mobilise prayer.

  • Prayerworks is a new initiative, just launched, by London Institute of Contemporary Christianity (LICC). It starts 1st Feb with a 40 day journey of prayer for work, using blessing as a pathway for prayer

‘Pray local, link national’ enables people to gather for prayer where they live and work but at the same time be part of national initiatives.  However on 26 May at Leyton Orient Stadium East London and on 29 September at Wembley Stadium – there is the opportunity to join large events.

If you are involved in a regional/countywide/town/village wide prayer initiative this year – do let us know. Full details of 2012 prayer events are being listed on as they become known.

Heal our Land – reflections on a corporate prayer journey for the transformation of Stoke-on-Trent by Robert Mountford

If you want encouragement of how God is at work here in the UK then I highly recommend this book. ‘Heal the land is a personal reflection on the corporate journey of humility, repentance and prayer undertaken by Christians from all backgrounds in the opening years of the 21st century. Robert tells the story of how a moment of corporate desperation became an avenue of grace that would impart vision, foster humility, inspire prayer and stimulate faith, so preparing the way for the ‘healing of the land’ of Stoke on Trent.’.  Available from at a cost of £8.99, post free in the UK.
