Visit of Francis Davis

Visit of Francis Davis

MEET FRANCIS DAVIS, the Government’s Adviser on the Big Society, Monday 6th June.

The visit to the Black Country by Francis Davis (see below) will be held at The Deckhouse, Waterfront West, Dudley Road,  Brierley Hill, DY5 1LW courtesy of the Black Country Consortium, on the morning of June 6th.  The BCC will also kindly be supplying us tea and coffee but there will not be lunch.

When I am more sure of an arrival time for Mr Davis I will email you but until then I am erring toward 11 o’clock to arrive at BCC.

For those who have not visited the Deckhouse before please be aware that parking in the immediate Deckhouse area, on their side of the canal, is very limited and is often full from early morning. Normally I park on the opposite side of the canal on Waterfront East off Waterfront Way and walk over the bridge. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=392203&y=287607&z=0&sv=DY5+1LW&st=2&pc=DY5+1LW&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf

(Those who may remember will recall we discussed this at a previous Black Country Faiths Cabinet meeting and a visit was arranged which had to be cancelled. Mr Davis is the Government Adviser on local communities (especially the Big Society agenda) and also a Senior Adviser to the Mayor of London, and has agreed to pay a visit to the West Midlands with a view to meeting local groups and faith bodies. He is a is a fellow of Blackfriars Hall, Oxford University, a director of the Las Casas Institute on Ethics, Human Rights And Social Justice, and an author and commentator on religious issues. His 2008 ‘Moral, But No Compass – Church, Government And The Future of Welfare’ was described as “fascinating and important” by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York.)

If you are interested in coming please let Geoff Boswell know.
