Walsall Community Church news………
The Works Week
Over the past 5 years we have been hosting “The Works Week” in Coalpool. Each year has been completely different with a huge variety of different people being involved from across Coalpool, Walsall and England. Jesus encouraged us to serve and to love our neighbour as we love ourselves. This is the foundation for what happens in Coalpool, especially during the Works Week.
So, what exactly is it?
It is a week set apart for fully serving the people in the Coalpool and Harden area. We do this through gardening, rubbish removal, decorating, Kidz Klub, Youth nights, and what ever else we see is needed during the week by the people we meet. Although we help out with a lot of practical stuff for people, we know that ultimately the most important thing we can offer people is Jesus and prayer. So, although a lot of people on the team aren’t Christians, we still keep Jesus at the top of all that we do, from how we start the day as a team to how we end of an evening.
Who can be a part of the team?
Anyone is welcome to be on the team – last year our youngest team member was 6years old and the oldest was 63years old. As long you are willing to get involved with the jobs that we are doing then you can be a part of the team. For us we love to spend time with the team members so we eat lunch and tea together and do some activities together. Although this is a time of volunteering, in order to ensure that we can feed the team we would appreciate a donation towards food – we promise you will not be hungry!!
When is it?
This year it takes place Thursday 21st July – Tuesday 26th July. You can come along for the whole time, part of the time or for the day.
So, what do you need to do now?
If you want to get involved you need to let us know what dates you are going to be around. Get your gardening clothes out, get your sun cream ready and get your friends to join you.
