Walsall News

Walsall Church Leaders – both official and ‘unofficial’ – come together to support each other and pray at Small Street Centre (1st and 3rd Wednesday’s at 12 midday) and at 8am for the Catalyst meeting, breakfast as well as support and prayer at Walsall Christian Centre in Corporation Street West (next meeting Saturday 25th June).

Leaders Prayer meetings normally have about 12 – 15 people attending with quite a mix across the denominations.

A speaker is normally invited to Catalyst and Rosemary Till from Junction 10 shared some thoughts at the last meeting.  Catalyst meetings have been steadily growing in attendance and there were 30 people of every ‘ Christian flavour’ enjoying fellowship and prayer together at the last meeting.

Street Pastors Walsall started operations on 26th March and has been out once a week on either Friday or Saturday nights since then. Mark has recruited 20 volunteers but the local publicity around the initiative has already attracted quite a few more potential Street Pastors.

Street Pastors was set up in London in 2003 as a Christian response to the problems of anti-social behaviour that are blighting our society. There are now about 200 towns & cities across the country where Street Pastors operate.

This is achieved by making sure that people get to a taxi safely, tending to someone passed out on the ground, diffusing a potentially volatile situation, even giving out flip flops to women who have taken off their shoes for the long walk home or just simply providing a listening ear for someone.

Mark has already said that there has not been 1 night which is the same as any other and has already had to call an ambulance to take care of a girl who had too much to drink.

Mark has been out every week with the different teams to make sure that all teething issues for the new teams are resolved straight away but he is beginning to feel the affect. However, the end of that exercise is in sight as Friday night will see the last new team out on the streets of Walsall.
