TRUMPET CALL/GLOBAL DAY OF PRAYER
AN INVITATION TO BIRMINGHAM
Trumpet Call VI is a call to the church across our nations to come and stand together and through worship, prayer and declaration, ask for God’s Kingdom to come and His will to be done.
WHY BIRMINGHAM?
People have been coming to Birmingham since the 12th century. Then it was a small clearing with a farm and a few houses; in 1304 it served travellers from the north to London. By the 15th century, nails, bridles and knives were made and one visitor wrote, “the place was swarming with inhabitants and echoing to the noise of anvils. The 17th century saw Birmingham develop and grow and in 1769 James Watt’s steam engine revolutionised industry and was key to the industrial revolution happening in the area. In 1765, Lloyds bank was formed to support growing industries. As more and more people came to Birmingham, so the development of industries mainly in independent workshops, took place and by the 1900’s and through the 20th century, the City was known as the “workshop of the world.”
BIRMINGHAM WELCOMES YOU.
Today the City has changed, but it still welcomes people from around the world. On Saturday 19th May – we welcome you ! Today, we are beginning to see small green shoots of a spiritual revolution. With God’s guidance this will have the same repercussions in the spiritual life of our nations as the industrial revolution did over 200 years ago. Trumpet Call V saw us proclaiming the work of the cross. Trumpet Call VI will continue this message. As our industrial predecessors used the anvil so the cross is the anvil on which our Christian life and faith is shaped. As you read this, you know there is a battle for the soul of our nation. We invite you to come and play your part as together we stand in faith that the green shoots will indeed bring forth a great harvest.
At Trumpet Call VI, we will by God’s grace, press on. Saturday 19th May sees the beginning of nine days of intense prayer across our nation culminating in the Global Day of Prayer on Sunday, 27th May. God has great purpose throughout this Friday Focused year of prayer for HOPE 2008 year of mission, to see us press on in prayer for breakthrough. Green shoots do not guarantee a harvest, but they hold great promise. We must stand together at this time.
The dream of Hope08 is that churches in every village, town and city will be mobilised to work in unity to share the good news of Jesus Christ in word and deed throughout 2008. 2007 is being designated ‘The Year of Prayer’ to encourage Christians to pray for their friends, communities and the nation. Many places have already linked into the Year of Prayer:- see the website for details. The World Prayer Centre is p r o v i d i n g Friday Focus w h i c h e n a b l e s united prayer to take place around the same theme on Fridays. www.worldprayer.org.uk
